BOILERS AND STEAM

Boilers, hydronic and steam heating in Yakima and Kittitas Counties

Keep warm and worry-free with boiler servicing that enhances the efficiency and lifespan of your heating system. Cast-iron radiators, steam, hot water and radiant, handled by plumbers who have done it since 1909.

Chapter 01

Old-house heat: cast-iron radiators, steam and hot water

Plenty of older homes in Yakima, Selah, Naches and Ellensburg still heat with a boiler. A steam system or a hot water system sends heat through pipes to cast-iron radiators, baseboards or floors, and a well-kept one can run quietly for a very long time. These systems are different from the forced-air furnaces most people know, and they take a plumber who understands water, pressure and pipe, not just a thermostat.

That is the trade this company was built on. Central Mechanical has been working in Yakima since 1909, and when Kris Ash was growing up in the business, he acquired deep insights into plumbing, hydronics, and boilers. That knowledge came from jobs in old basements and old farmhouses, the kind of homes that still call for it.

If you have inherited a radiator system, or you are buying a house that has one, we can look it over and tell you what you have, how it is piped, and what it needs.

Boiler servicing: keeping a heating system warm and worry-free

Boiler servicing keeps your heating system working the way it was meant to, and it extends the useful life of equipment that is expensive to replace. When we service a boiler, we look at the parts that wear and the parts that quietly fail: circulators that move the water, the valves that isolate and control it, the gauges that tell you what the system is doing, and the near-boiler piping that ties it all together.

A leaking valve, a gauge that has stopped reading, a circulator that hums but does not move water, or radiators that stay cold while the boiler runs are all signs worth a call. Catching them in the fall is a lot easier than finding them at midnight in a Yakima Valley cold snap. If you do end up without heat in the middle of the night, our 24/7 emergency line is (509) 248-5944.

We will tell you plainly whether a repair makes sense or whether the system is at the end of the road.

Chapter 03

Repair it, replace it, or add radiant floors to it

Not every old boiler has to go. Some only need a part, a purge or a proper service. When a replacement is the honest answer, we walk you through the choices, including how the new boiler is piped into your existing radiators or zones. Our installation work covers boilers and hydronic, radiant and steam heating. Our work carries a one year labor and product warranty.

A boiler also pairs well with radiant floor heating. The same hot water source that feeds your radiators can feed warm floors in a remodel or an addition, which is why the two jobs often come up in the same conversation. If that sounds like your house, see our radiant floor heating page.

For larger projects over $2,500, we offer free, no obligation estimates. Veterans and seniors in Central Washington receive 10% off our services; ask when you schedule. Boilers in restaurants, offices and other buildings are covered on our commercial plumbing page.

Boiler, hydronic and steam heating service across Yakima, Selah, Moxee, Naches, Ellensburg, Cle Elum and the rest of our service area. Call (509) 248-5944. Emergency service is available 24/7; the office is open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
